Genius Hour Reflection
Summarize the purpose of your Genius Hour project in 140 characters.
My Genius Hour project was created with the intent to get people interested in building and learning about computers.
Explain the process of your Genius Hour project. Be reflective. Be contemplative. Explain and describe your journey. (No Less Than Three FULL Paragraphs.)
My Genius Hour project first started with researching the various parts I would need in order to create a computer. I had used many different websites and watched many tutorials on youtube on compatibility and installation of these parts. I was really starting to learn more about compatibility through this, and I believe I have a decent grasp of it now.
After finally ordering the parts needed to build the computer, it was time to start assembling it. I had to use many of the same resources that I used to learn about compatibility, and had to have my dad help at parts when I did not possess the physical strength needed to install certain components.
The computer was finally finished and I set about editing my weebly page to reflect this, as well as start giving pointer tips to beginners. I ended up setting the computer as my main desktop at home, and use it everyday.
The intention For Genius Hour is NOT only to learn, but ALSO to share your knowledge with others who can and will benefit from your learning. How did you share your learning? What do you hope the result might be? (No Less Than Two Full Paragraphs.)
For the knowledge that I gained from this project, I shared it by presenting a document on my weebly, as well as telling friends and family members about computers and giving advice on it. My friends were a bit less welcoming of the information than my family was, but everyone I contacted did learn a bit of information.
I hope that from what I have done some people may have gained an interest in computers and technology in general. If some start building their own computers, they may realize how much money they can save by not having to buy a new computer every few years due to outdated technology, rather they would be able to switch out components as needed.
If you could do anything different with your Genius Hour project what would you do differently and why? (No less than two full paragraphs.)
I would choose a completely different Genius Hour to work with. While the end result of the project is great, the journey to get there was a bit boring at times and took a long while. If i had to stay with the same project, I would have used better components next time, and gotten a different case for the computer.
I would also like to change how I shared the information I learned through the project. While I managed to share a little of what I’ve learned, I did not reach many people and was not the result I wanted when I started this assignment.
Reflect on what you did well during this Genius Hour process? Note your successes and accomplishments. (No less than two full paragraphs.)
For the first goal of Genius Hour, which was building a computer, I would call it a success. The computer built in the video is now my main desktop that I use for gaming, school work, and digital art. The computer is fully functional after some issues with drivers, and I am very pleased with the final product.
The second goal of my Genius Hour was not as successful sadly. While I did manage to tell some people about computers and possibly get a few interested in it, how I went about it and the results were not what I wanted. Hopefully I can continue to get people interested in small ways, and better conclude this project in the future.
Include any videos, pictures, presentations, or artifacts that will document your journey.
